The house has several trees close by, and trees, whilst helping the environment, also help contribute to moss and lichen growth on walls and roofs.
The house had concrete roof tiles and an unbelievable amount of them had been damaged by aggressive Lichen growth. We had to replace around 70 roof tiles. We also had to carry out some repairs to the leadwork around the chimney, as well as carrying out some patch pointing on the ridge tiles.
As you can see, the roof has a lot of moss, particularly in the centre and along the ridge. All this moss was holding on to moisture year after year. Each winter, with the freezing temperatures, the sodden moss expands and damages the relatively brittle concrete roof tiles. The moss on this roof had done particular damage to the ridge of the roof.

So, after what turned out to be quite a long job, due to a large number of repairs carried out, we packed up the power washers and all our roof repair gear and headed home, satisfied that we’d protected another local roof from nature’s constant onslaught.
