We were called out recently to clean another roof in Nottingham. Peak Roofclean Ltd are a Midlands based company so we tend to find a lot of work in the Cities of Nottingham, Derby and Leicester.  Being based in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, it’s not too far for us to travel down the M1 into Nottinghamshire.

This particular job was a bungalow. The bungalow’s roof had become blackened with age. Mosses and lichens had heavily colonised the roof tiles and had begun to damage some of the tiles. The homeowner was wanting to sell the property and knew that a cost-effective way to make the house look better was to get professional roof cleaners in. He called Peakroofclean of course!

As you can see for the closeup photos, the level of moss buildup had become pretty bad.  When moss builds up on roof tiles like this, it begins to grow underneath the edges of the tiles and slates.  In cold and wet weather moss holds water, and so when the temperatures drop below freezing the waterlogged moss will expand, gradually breaking pieces off your roof tiles.

The steady attrition caused by moss over the years can lead to leaks and interior damage.  So you see, getting your roof cleaned is more than just cosmetic.  You are actually protecting your roof and your property for the long term.

After we had finished cleaning the roof, we also cleaned any mess that the process had caused, leaving the patio, car park and back garden just the way we found them.
