July 2020 was a busy month for residential roof cleaning. We are able to work remotely from our customers, so we didn’t see a slow down in business, despite many other roof cleaning companies not working.

The Linby house had a large number of trees quite nearby, trees can contribute to the amount of organic debris that finds its way up onto the roof of your home. This particular property was troubled by lichens, which had even begun to stain the stonework as the lichens had washed off the roof.
As usual, we carried out an initial inspection before cleaning the roof.
Next, we pressure cleaned all the roof tiles and stonework removing the unwanted moss, algae, and lichens. We also cleared out the guttering ensuring that water does not spill over the top in heavy rain, thus staining the stonework.

Almost every job that we visit, we find broken slates or roof tiles, this is normal because of the natural effect of weathering to crack roof tiles, usually by a process of capillary action. this is where moss at gets underneath your roof tiles and in between the gaps absorbs water. then in colder weather, the water-laden moss freezes and expands breaking off spell parts of your roof tiles. Over time the damage becomes worse and worse.
During the work, we replaced 30 broken tiles. We also inspected the lead flashing in the valleys and against the chimney. Once the work was finished, we treated the roof with antifungals before starting the cleanup process.
